Remember that one time we reported that J.Crew was coming out with an affordable line, but then J.Crew made a statement that they weren’t? Well, apparently… they actually are now!
A few days ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that J. Crew had filed an application with the U.S Patent and Trademark office in November to trademark the name “J.Crew Mercantile” in order to sell clothing and accessories. The new store format will be aimed at budget-conscious shoppers and will host prices more similar to those found at J.Crew’s outlet stores. However, unlike their outlet stores the J.Crew Mercantile locations are set to be in regional malls closer to city centres. As of right now, all we know about the locations are that a few leases have been signed – locations have yet to be confirmed.
We have our fingers cross that a J.Crew Mercantile will open in Canada, but we’ll keep you posted!
